Brevet Medals

Upon successful completion of Brevets, medals commemorating the event can be purchased for 10,000 KRW each.  Riders interested in receiving a medal need to order them in advance from the Korea Randonneurs.  The image shows medals from the 2007-2011 period (to enlarge, click on image).

PBP 2011

The 1200k cycling event Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) will be held from August 21 - 25, 2011.  According to the president of the Audax Club Parisien (ACP), the parent organization of PBP, no Korean rider has ever finished this crueling event in the 100 year history of PBP.  Do you want to be the first Korean to accomplish this magnificent achievement and ride PBP in less than 90 hours?  If you plan to ride PBP, you will need to qualify by successfully completing the entire Brevet series (200, 300, 400, 600k).  Moreover, the 1000k Brevet would serve as another good test.  The image shows the medal awarded to successful riders.  For more information, contact Lothar Hennighausen.

  

1200k 사이클링 이벤트 파리 - 브레스트 – 파리 (PBP)는 2011년 8월 21- 25동안 개최됩니다.  ACP회장에 의하면 100년 동안 개최된 PBP 이벤트에서 완주한 한국인은 아직까지 한 명도 없었다고 합니다. 바로 당신이 이 굉장한 성과를 달성할 수 있는 첫 번째 한국인이 될 수 있습니다. 만약 PBP이벤트에 참가하길 원하신다면, 200, 300, 400, 600k Brevet 시리즈를 모두 완주하셔야만 합니다. 더 자세한 정보가 필요하시다면 Lothar Hennighausen에게 연락 주시기 바랍니다.

 

SHORE EXPLORER 1000k Brevet - April 23, 2011

On April 23, 2011 we will launch our inaugural ACP sanctioned 1000km Shore Explorer! It was designed to highlight stunning coastal features of the South Korean peninsula without ignoring the enchanting countryside with its rice fields and mysterious mountains. Starting from Gwangju riders will head east towards the Jirisan Mountains into the rising sun. From Gurye cyclists will follow the Seomjin River and merge with the southern coast in Sacheon. After crossing most spectacular bridges we will meander along the shores of islands (Changseondo, Namhaeddo, Jido and Wando) and peninsulas protruding like fingers from the mainland. From Wando we will head west past Haenam to join the Yellow Sea at Mokpo. From there riders will turn north and follow the coastline for 200+ kilometers. As part of this we will cross of few bridges that lay testimony to Korea’s engineering skills and visit islands with picturesque fishing villages (live octopus - Nak-ji - should be on the Randonneur’s menu and is particularly good in Doripo and Donha) and scintillating scenery. 700km into the ride cyclists will leave the coastal road, turn northwest and continue on the 32 long Saemangeum Seawall, the longest structure of its kind; the piece of ocean it captures will be home Asia’s newest mega city. After this exhilarating, yet possibly very windy, experience we will head east into Gunsan. The final 200 km will take us south through a mix of farmland, rolling hills and some serious climbs crossing the Naejangsan Mountains before we return to Gwangju. 1000km 해안 탐험으로 구성된 이 ACP는 광활하게 펼쳐진 푸른 논밭과 신비로운 산이 존재하는 매혹적인 시골 풍경과 함께 한국 반도의 환상적인 해안을 감상할 수 있도록 계획되었습니다. 광주에서 출발하여 지리산을 향해 동쪽으로 이동하여 구례에 도착하게 될 것입니다. 이곳에서부터 섬진강을 따라 이동하여 사천에서 남해안을 볼 수 있을 것입니다. 이곳에서 가장 아름다운 다리를 건넌 후에 창선도, 남해도, 진도 그리고 완도로 구성된 섬과 구불구불한 해안반도를 따라 자전거 여행을 즐기게 될 것입니다. 우리는 완도에서 해남을 거쳐 서해가 있는 목포로 향하게 될 것입니다. 여기서 우리는 북쪽을 향하여 200km 이상을 해안선을 따라 달릴 것입니다. 이 동안에 우리는 발전된 한국의 엔지니어링 기술이 돋보이는 다리를 건너 아름다운 어촌과 재미있는 풍경이 있는 섬을 방문하게 될 것입니다. I wish all Korea Randonneurs a successful and injury free Brevet season.

This year we offer a full series (200, 300, 400, 600k) and 1000k Brevets (information on side bar). All Brevets, with the exception of the 200k, start and end in Gwangju. The 200k starts and in Mokpo and loops around JIN-DO, the 300k will take us north to Ganggyeong, the 400k will take us to WANDO and UDOO at the southern shore, the 600k will loop around the GOHEUNG peninsula and YEOSU. The highlight of this Brevet season will be the 1000k Shore Explorer that features large stretches of the southern and western shores and plenty of islands. Additional information about the rides can be found on the side bar. Registration deadline is January 31 (Registration: English - Korean).
