KOREA RANDONNEURS -

video (English / Korean subtitles)

Randonneurs are long-distance unsupported endurance cyclists who cover distances between 200km and 1200km and beyond. Randonneuring has its roots in France and every four years in August Randonneurs from around the globe gather in this country to participate in the 1200km event Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP). The Korea Randonneurs were established in 2009 and the first Brevets were held in 2010 (BICYCLELIFE article). All Korea Randonneurs Brevets have been sanctioned by Audax Club Parisien (ACP 601000) and can be used to qualify for PBP. Check out our permanent new web site.

In 2012 we will run our first Korea Fleche (pronounced 플 레쉬).  Fleche is the French word for “arrow” (화살표 방향).  Teams consisting of 3-5 riders will start on March 31 at 11 a.m. from different cities and then converge 24 hours later (April 1) on Gwangju, where all riders will have a celebration lunch.  Each team has to cycle at least 360 km.  So far two teams have signed up.  One team will start in Cheonan (Hennighausen Lothar - 헤닉하우즌 로타) and one in Busan (Jan Boonstra).  Riders interested in riding from Cheonan (tentative route) should contact Lothar (alpinerandonneur@verizon.net) and riders who wish to join the Busan team should contact Jan (jan@boonstra.org).  Korea Randonneurs who wish to form their own team should contact Jan Boonstra (jan@boonstra.org) soon to make arrangements.  Each team has to submit their route to Jan Boonstra (jan@boonstra.org) for approval before February 1, 2012.  Please contact Jan for additional information

Fleche

Fleche
March 31 – April 1 (start 11:00 am). Fleche will finish in Gwangju
A Fleche (French word for ‘arrow’) is a team event.  Several teams will start from different parts of Korea on March 31 at 11 a.m. and meet 24 hours later in Gwangju, where we will have a celebratory lunch.  The total distance each team has to cover is at least 360km but the teams can decide to ride more than this distance.  Each team has to consist of 3 – 5 cyclists.  In order for a team to finish successfully, three members have to arrive in Gwangju within the 24 hour time limit.  Each team has to plan its own route with controls.  This route will be certified by Korea Randonneurs prior to the ride.  Fleche rules ensure that all teams will arrive at the destination (Gwangju) at the same time.  ‘Fleche’ rules dictate that each team has a 22 hour control approximately 25 km from Gwangju.  Each team is allowed to depart from this control only at 9 a.m. on Sunday April 1 and proceed to Gwangju.  At this point several teams have expressed interest.  There will be a team from Seoul (team leader Han Chul Woo), a Gwangju team starting from Cheonan (Han Soon Kwon, Seo Sang Won, Lee Dong Ho, Hennighausen and 1 other), a Waegwan/Daegu team (Morris, Boonstra, Park In Soo?) and possibly a team from Chungcheon.  Riders interested in forming a team should contact Lothar Hennighausen (alpinerandonneur@verizon.net).  Deadline for team applications and route submissions will be February 1, 2012.
